I never would have thought John Fetterman would turn out to be an AIPAC enforcer.
But he’s right up there with Ritchie Torres, Jared Moskowitz, and Josh Gottheimer.
His latest buffoonery is objecting to the upcoming visit of Iran’s foreign minister minister to New York (where the UN is located!) because Iran is a nasty country and John “can’t imagine why anything that Iran can say about anything is relevant. I can’t imagine why you would platform that.”
[The Biden asministration is very interested in what Iran has to say, which is why they are communicating with Tehran around the clock to try to prevent it from retaliating against Israel’s recent attack on Iran’s embassy in Damascus. Fetterman may not know this].
Here’s Fetterman:
“The United Nations can’t even condemn Hamas. It’s pretty wild. I mean, you can’t condemn cowards and rapists that hide behind civilians?” he added. “I haven’t remembered them ever saying, ‘Well, why can’t Hamas surrender [because they didn’t lose?] and end all of this? Let’s end all of this drama.’ But they won’t because they really actually don’t care about all of the death and all of the misery of Palestinians.”
Anyway, limiting official visits to the UN is an incredibly stupid idea. Whether Fetterman likes Iran or not, it is an important country, especially now. If popularity was the criterion for UN participation, the first country to be voted off Manhattan island would not be Iran. Not even close. It would be Israel.
I thought only Republican senators were this ignorant.
